HIU has a commitment to inclusive excellence and accessibility. That means we actively, intentionally, and collectively support efforts to build a community that embraces difference and welcomes every individual or group. We foster a sense of belonging, relationship building, and community building across difference. 

Our history as a pioneering institution — for example, the first in America to admit women to seminary on the same terms as men and the first to launch an accredited Islamic Chaplaincy program — continues today in our efforts to identify and eliminate barriers to participation and opportunity. Since launching the International Peacemaking Program in 2005, the precursor to our MA in International Peacebuilding, we have intentionally sought to widen our impact on the international community as well. Respect for different perspectives and cultures is part of our DNA, as reflected in our longstanding tagline: Exploring Differences, Deepening Faith.
