HIU Library Receives National Endowment for the Humanities Grant

Hartford International University's library was among 280 recipients of a recent round of funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities. 

The grant was submitted by Director of Library Services Karla Grafton. The library will receive $9,505 for a project titled, Maintaining our Mission: Making the Past Accessible for the Future Project Description. The project is a preservation assessment of the Hartford International University Archives, as well as the purchase of environmental monitoring equipment and training on its use to protect archival collections.

“We are excited for this opportunity to continue working to better preserve and make accessible our important archival materials," Karla Grafton said.

HIU's grant was in the category of Preservation Assistance Grants for Smaller Institutions. Such grants "help institutions improve their ability to preserve and care for their humanities collections, including special collections of books and journals, archives and manuscripts, prints and photographs, moving images, sound recordings, architectural and cartographic records, decorative and fine arts, textiles, archaeological and ethnographic artifacts, furniture, and historical objects."

“These 280 new grant awards underscore the wide range of exemplary, fascinating, and impactful humanities work that scholars, practitioners, and institutions are conducting in all corners of the country,” NEH Chair Shelly C. Lowe (Navajo) said in a press release.
