HIU Mourns the Passing of Rev. Dr. William Zito '59, '87

The Hartford International University community mourns the loss of the Rev. Dr. William J. Zito '59 and '87, a former Trustee and a graduate of HIU. He was 88.

The Rev. Dr. Zito was the pastor emeritus of First Congregational Church of Watertown. He had a long history of serving congregations in Connecticut, including the Horace Bushnell Church in Hartford and the First Congregational Church in Westbrook.

According to his obituary, he performed nearly 1000 baptisms, more than 1000 weddings, and about 800 funerals during his career as a minister. 

Rev. Dr. Zito was also a Hartford International University Trustee for several years.

"He was a wonderfully warm board member, and especially kind to newcomers," said Trustee Allison Chisolm.

A Celebration of Bill's life will be held at 10 o'clock in the morning on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the Immanuel Congregational Church, 10 Woodland St., Hartford, CT 06105. A luncheon will follow.
