HIU Staff Retreat Fosters Collaboration and Shared Vision
August 26, 2025
On Monday, Aug. 25, Hartford International University staff gathered for a retreat at the Connecticut Science Center in Hartford. Led by President Sherry Turner, the event was a productive session focused on strengthening relationships, engaging in strategic dialogue, and shaping a collective vision built upon the university's strengths.
The retreat served as a platform for President Turner to share key insights gathered from her first weeks at HIU, during which she has held approximately 100 conversations with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and Trustees.
The day's discussions centered on strategic priorities, core institutional values, and opportunities for innovation across teaching, research, and community engagement.
A highlight of the retreat was "The Ascending Dove Challenge," a collaborative activity where staff members formed teams to develop original ideas for enhancing HIU’s partnerships, programs, peers, pipeline, people, and processes.
President Turner emphasized that the innovative concepts generated by staff will help inform her leadership and strategic priorities moving forward.
Staff also had an opportunity to visit the Science Center after the retreat.
