February 26, 2026

PKUMI Scholars

On Wednesday, Feb. 25, HIU welcomed eight J-1 scholars arriving from Indonesia: Ilham Surya, Muhammad Maulana, Azmi Subhan Robbani, Dinan Kiasati, Daris Salamah, Sinta Hardiyati, Hakiki Hakiki, and Muhamad Lutfi Azizi. They represent the fifth cohort from PTIQ University, Jakarta, to participate in the “Ulama Cadre Education Program of Masjid Istiqlal” (PKUMI) short course.

Through late May, the scholars will be engaged in a range of academic and cultural activities, including MA thesis research with select faculty, a Qur’anic Studies seminar, an Intercultural Seminar, and conversational English practice.

The PKUMI short course is a mandatory component of the broader PKUMI curriculum at Istiqlal Mosque, designed to offer Indonesian graduate students an immersive experience in an American interreligious, intercultural, and academic setting. The program includes cohort-based cultural immersion seminars, English language tutoring, an Islamic studies research methods seminar conducted with faculty from the Macdonald Center, and guided research under the mentorship of an HIU advisor, who serves as a conversation partner for each student’s MA research.

Welcome to all!
