HIU Welcomes Sixth Cohort of PKUMI Indonesian Scholars

On Thursday, Aug. 27, HIU welcomed 10 J-1 Ph.D. scholars arriving from Indonesia. They represent the sixth cohort from PTIQ University, Jakarta, to participate in the “Ulama Cadre Education Program of Masjid Istiqlal” (PKUMI) short course.

Through late February, the scholars will take part in a Ph.D. seminar with select faculty, an Intercultural Seminar, and conversational English practice.

This short course is a mandatory component of the broader PKUMI curriculum at Istiqlal Mosque, designed to give Indonesian graduate students an immersive experience in an American interreligious, intercultural, and academic setting. Faculty from the Macdonald Center lead the program, serving as research conversation partners for each student throughout their cohort-based immersion.
