Osman Simsek

Biography

Osman Simsek is a Board-Certified Chaplain, theologian, educator, and spiritual caregiver with over twenty years of professional experience serving diverse communities in university, healthcare, psychiatric, and correctional settings across the United States. He currently serves as the Director of Muslim Life at Trinity College, where he leads religious programming, provides pastoral counseling, and fosters interfaith engagement grounded in Islamic tradition and contemporary chaplaincy practice.

Osman holds a Master of Arts in Islamic Chaplaincy from Hartford International University and has completed six units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), including a chaplaincy residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He is currently pursuing doctoral studies to develop his original "Virtuous Companion" model of chaplaincy, which integrates Islamic spiritual ethics with professional standards of pastoral care. His pastoral work emphasizes compassionate presence, ethical leadership, crisis response, and culturally sensitive spiritual care within pluralistic institutions.

In addition to his chaplaincy work, Osman brings over four decades of training in traditional Islamic sciences, having completed advanced madrasah studies equivalent to doctoral-level education in theology and Islamic sciences. His teaching integrates Qur'anic spirituality, prophetic ethics, and lived pastoral experience, with particular attention to spiritual formation, the inner life, and the central role of compassion in Muslim pastoral theology.

Osman has served as an imam, Islamic studies teacher, editor, and media producer, and is the author and editor of numerous books and educational works. A native speaker of Turkish with advanced study in Arabic, he is deeply committed to helping students explore Islamic sciences as a transformative, embodied, and relational path that speaks to the heart, soul, and lived realities of contemporary life.

He began teaching at Hartford International University in the summer of 2026 as a Contract Lecturer, initially teaching Islamic Spirituality, drawing on both classical sources and modern pastoral contexts to support students preparing for chaplaincy, ministry, and spiritual leadership across diverse institutional and cultural settings. He currently serves as Senior Instructor of Chaplaincy, where he teaches Theology and Scripture in Spiritual Care Practice as well as other chaplaincy courses. His teaching integrates theological reflection, spiritual formation, and practical caregiving skills, preparing students to serve effectively across healthcare, educational, institutional, and community settings.
