Dr. Lucinda Mosher, director of the Master of Arts in Interreligious Studies program at Hartford International University for Religion and Peace, has been selected as a presenter for six sessions during the forthcoming 2023 Parliament of the World’s Religions (PoWR). The Parliament of the World’s Religions features impact makers in faith-based activism, scholarship, and community and the successful organizations they support—worldwide. The Parliament of the World’s Religions, modeled after the 1893 event of the same name held in Chicago during the Columbian World’s Exposition has been hailed as the world’s premier interfaith gathering since its centenary revival in Chicago in 1993. Parliament presenters will be featured in a five-day convening held at the Lakeside Center of McCormick Place in Chicago this August 14–18. Registration for the convening is now on sale.

More than 2,500 program applicants submitted this year for consideration in more than seven thematic categories, including Climate Action, Peace & Justice, Indigenous Peoples, Women & Girls, Next Generation, the Global Ethic, and Faith & Democracy. Programs were curated to meet a call for moving expressions in a blended format program of spiritual observances, artistic installations, film, performances, expert panels, and more.

Dr Mosher will be speaking at sessions on critical interreligious studies pedagogies in higher education; interreligious studies; interfaith engagement at the secondary school level; the role of academia in interfaith dialogue; and the training of non-Christian religious leaders at historically Christian graduate schools—plus a session on the development of With the Best of Intentions: Interreligious Missteps and Mistakes, an anthology forthcoming from Orbis Books in October that she has coedited with Elinor J. Pierce of the Pluralism Project at Harvard University and Or N. Rose of Hebrew College. She will also be co-leading a workshop on how to publish with the Journal of Interreligious Studies, for which she is senior editor.

“The Parliament of the World’s Religions is such a vibrant gathering,” Dr Mosher said. “I am delighted to have such an active role in its 2023 convening.”

Rev. Stephen Avino, Executive Director of the Parliament of the World’s Religions said, "When honorable and talented people of faith from around the world shared their ideas for the coming Parliament of the World's Religions, it was no surprise to learn what impact religious and spiritual communities are bringing right now to the work of peace, justice, and sustainability around the globe. Answering the ‘call to conscience’ on the Parliament's most ambitious theme yet, protecting freedom and democracy,  our applicants overpowered us with brilliant and moving offerings of scholarship, performance, and faith-based activism from nearly 2,500 interested participants. We are thrilled to be sharing a stunning view of this impact, much that is yet to be seen on a global interfaith stage.”

The Parliament of the World’s Religions welcomes all people dedicated to protecting democracy and human rights, fostering interfaith dialogue and action, and engaged in the peace, justice, and sustainability movements to the 2023 Parliament Convening. More than 600 programs will offer participants immersive learning experiences and countless community-building opportunities during the five-day event.
