HIU to Offer Online Biblical Hebrew as Continuing Education Class

May 19, 2025

Cleotha Robertson

For the first time, HIU will offer a Biblical Hebew class this summer as part of its non-credit continuing education program.

This online class via Zoom is designed to introduce the basic principles of Hebrew grammar and syntax. It seeks to avoid unnecessarily complicating the learning process with massive amounts of vocabulary or technical explanation of grammar. The ultimate purpose behind mastering the basic grammatical/syntactical structure is to read, study, interpret, teach, and preach the Old Testament Scriptures with greater accuracy and authority.

The instructor is Dr. Cleotha Robertson, Director of HIU's Howard Thurman Center for Justice and Transformational Ministry, Associate Professor, and a faculty member in HIU's Black Ministries Program.

"Learning Hebrew is like having first row seats for favorite sports team or favorite recording artist," Dr. Robertson said. "You get to see up close nuances that you can only see in the first row!"

Dr. Robertson will hold a free online information session about the class on Wednesday, May 28, at 7 p.m. Email him at crobertson@hartfordinternational.edu for the Zoom link.

The fee for the class, which runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. twice a week, is $500. Dates are listed below:

June: 16, 19, 23, 26
July: 7, 10, 14, 17, 21, 24, 28, 31
August: 4, 7, 11, 14,18, 21
