The Hartford Courant’s Extraordinary Life column of Jan. 4, 2014, featured Prof. Willem Bijlefeld, a longtime Hartford Seminary professor, dean and founder of the Macdonald Center. Prof. Bijlefeld, who retired from the Seminary in 1990, died on Dec. 15, 2013, at the age of 88.

Seminary Mourns Loss of Prof. Willem Bijlefeld, Macdonald Center Founder

Willem A. Bijlefeld, 88, who retired from Hartford Seminary in 1990 after 25 years as a Professor of Islamic Studies, Academic Dean, Editor of The Muslim World, and founder and director of the Macdonald Center, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 15, after a long illness.
