Office of International Services

Welcome! Assalaam alaikum! Shalom! Yassas!

The Office of International Services (OIS) provides support and guidance on every aspect of international student and scholar life at Hartford International – immigration, cultural, academic, personal, and financial.

Congratulations on beginning your academic journey at Hartford International University. We are ready to help you get started and have gathered essential resources to guide you through securing your F-1/J-1 visa, making your way to the United States, and transitioning into life on campus.

OISS understands that living and learning in a culture different from your own can be both exciting and challenging. Our team is here to provide you with the guidance and tools to achieve your academic goals while taking advantage of all the opportunities that Hartford International University offers. If you have any questions, please email us at sevis@hartfordinternational.edu.

  • The H-1B visa is designated for individuals entering the United States temporarily to work in a specialty occupation. A specialty occupation is defined as one that requires “theoretical and practical application of a body of highly specialized knowledge, and attainment of a bachelor's or higher degree, or its equivalent, as a minimum requirement.” U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), which adjudicates H-1B petitions, further specifies that the required “degree” must be in a specific specialty directly related to the position offered.

The H-1B is both employer- and position-specific. This means that the employee is authorized to perform only the duties outlined in the approved petition and may receive compensation solely from the sponsoring employer, as detailed in the H-1B application. H-1B employees are not permitted to receive compensation from any other employer or for activities not included in the approved petition.
