Use of Library Spaces
Library spaces are meant for study, research, and collaboration. The main reading room is the busiest area, where conversation and collaboration are encouraged. If you need a quieter space, the doors to the Reference (Quiet study) area may be closed to keep the area quiet. Single study spaces may also be sought out in the stacks in the basement if you are looking for an even quieter study space.
Guests/Visitors
Visitors are welcome at the library any time during our open hours. While on campus, our electronic databases and full-text serials are available for your access. Library staff can help you with accessing the catalog and finding materials. A guest membership with borrowing privileges (for CT residents) costs $25 per year and allows the borrowing of up to 10 items at a time for a one month period. Borrowing privileges apply to physical materials only.
Computer Usage
Computers are provided primarily for the convenience of our students. All use must follow the Hartford International University computer use guidelines.
Fees for Lost & Damaged Items
A default of $50.00 is charged for lost or damaged materials. If the replacement item costs more than $50.00, the actual replacement cost amount will be charged, plus a $15.00 processing fee.
Sorry, we are unable to accept borrower-provided replacement items.
Book Donations
We can only accept items published within the last 25 years and in clean condition: mildew/mold/insect-free and minimal markings; exceptions for rare books prior to 1850.
We cannot accept obsolete formats such as VHS or cassettes.
Items accepted will be added to the collection based on our Collection Development Policy. Any other items will be sold to students or donated elsewhere.
Donors must deliver the items (unfortunately, we do not have the funds or staff to pick up materials). A list of titles in advance is always helpful!
Other options for donations: Theological Book Network, The Book Barn, Vietnam Veterans of America, Better World Books
